Welcome QODE – a major event showcasing Queensland innovation and technology to a global audience. Attended by international experts, local and state government officials, senior executives, start-ups/scale-up founders and tech heads, it was a premier event to enjoy!
3dotDigital were excited to attend…And we wanted to share the experience and some insights with you!
3dotDigital Presentation – The Future of Retail in Australia
It was wonderful to cast a picture to the audience of the innovative tech solutions available to the retail sector. In working with retailers at a domestic and international level such as UNIQLO, it has become obvious to our team and our global tech partners that Australian retailers can take greater advantage of technology to yield higher returns and meet the needs of consumers.
Internet of Things (IoT) technology will enable real time stock control through smart shelves and demand-aware warehousing fulfilment. The use of data science, artificial intelligence (AI) and augmented reality (AR) enables real-time targeted marketing in-store and via apps and voice technology.
We can’t wait to see retailers experience greater success by choosing to enhance and personalise the customer experience.
It was fantastic to see regional Queensland entrepreneurs, innovation hubs and opportunities on display! The 3dotDigital team were able to reach out and start building relationships with coordinators at the various innovation hubs prior to our regional roadshows.
Our discussions with visitors supported our understanding that there is no shortage of ideas and talent regionally. What is required is further access and guidance to innovative tech solutions enabling founders to build a product of value that can scale into the future.
Another focus of the conference was to showcase the support available to startups to go global.
A panel of Trade and Investment Queensland Commissioners from India, ASEAN, Japan and Taiwan shared some interesting insights:
Japan are now looking beyond their own backyard to invest. What Japan wants to see is the correct ingredients – product/service, project and people.
Mind, Money and Market – simple. The Commissioner advised that founders need to have the intent to want to expand into the Indian market. He has observed that founders who come with a collaborative mindset rather than competitive are more likely to succeed.
Singapore have pools of capital and are waiting to invest. A warning however – assuming your product will succeed in Singapore just because it did well in Australia would be unwise. More market research position will ensure you are best prepared.
The Taiwanese government and companies are now investing in artificial intelligence and Smart cities. QLD has actually been a testing ground for them to understand what we have and what they could take back. They also have a growing interest businesses focused on the circular economy and in the Agtech space. The Commissioner advised that if you do wish to expand into Taiwan you must commit to the market. Be consistent and follow up when building relationships.
Leanne Kemp, Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur also shared her story about expanding into the UK. She recalls how the relationships she built with contacts from TIQ (Trade and Investment Queensland) in England were integral to the success of Everledger. She advocates for all TIQ and Advance Queensland staff as ‘Silent Sherpa for Start-ups’ who unashamedly aim to support Queensland entrepreneurs.
Trade and Investment Queensland’s CEO, Paul Martyn certainly agreed and encouraged founders see his team as a resource for support and as a global gateway.
At a time when Brisbane’s startup and research sectors are undergoing significant growth, QODE was a well-executed premier event. The decision to include and showcase regional Queensland innovators enabled it to serve as a gathering point, encouraging the merging of information, knowledge and investment.
The 3dotDigital team were grateful to contribute on such a stage and look forward to future events celebrating innovation and technology.
